A new Indigenous Engagement Plan will help the Northern Development Initiative Trust support the 89 Indigenous governments in their region.
It is guided by five key themes: improved communication, promotion of Indigenous governance, enhanced cultural education, aligning programming with Indigenous priorities, and building respectful relationships.
To further development of the plan, NDIT is also establishing an eight-person Indigenous Advisory Committee, made up of regional leaders.
Some of the names on the panel include: Williams Lake First Nation Chief Willie Sellars, former Stikine MLA Doug Donaldson, and Haisla CAO Laurie Mercer.
