Nearly 68 million people around the world are getting set to take part in the 12th edition of the most coordinated earthquake drill in the world.
Known as the Great Shakeout, BC’s branch of the event is put on by the British Columbia Earthquake Alliance.
They use the tag line “Drop, Cover and Hold On” in an effort to build muscle memory to help residents react quicker in the event of a quake.
This year’s theme is Earthquake Early Warning, with participants across the globe practicing taking cover at 10:19 in the morning next Thursday.
Canada’s Early Earthquake Warning system will not be operational until next year, but participating media outlets will sound an alert at that time.
BC is more prone to damages from earthquakes than any other region of the country, due to it’s connection to the Pacific Ocean.
