On August 18, 2024, crews continued their efforts to contain wildfire R52252, known as “Out of Control,” located near Fire Mountain Rd. By 4:15 p.m., danger tree assessment and removal were completed, and crews were actively working to secure the fire’s perimeter with hoses. A heavy-lift helicopter was deployed to support ground operations.
Earlier in the day, at 10:15 a.m., firefighters had gained access to the blaze, assessing and removing danger trees while establishing a water hoselay around the fire. A water tender was also on-site to aid in the suppression efforts.
The initial response began on the evening of August 17, when an Initial Attack Crew, along with a birddog and airtanker, were dispatched. The airtanker dropped two loads of retardant to help control the spread. Currently, no structures are under threat.
A total of 19 firefighters from the BC Wildfire Service, Haisla Fire Department, and Kitimat Fire Department are on the ground, conducting a full response to ensure public safety and protect nearby property and infrastructure.
