In Terrace, a significant new resource has just opened its doors for women and children escaping gender-based violence. Ella’s Place, a new second-stage housing development, offers 22 homes designed to provide safe and supportive accommodation.
The three-story building features a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units, along with a secure green space and play area for families. The project is a collaboration between the Province, BC Housing, and ‘Ksan Society, marking the first of its kind in Terrace.
Amanda Owens, executive director of ‘Ksan Society, noted that this temporary accommodation plays a crucial role in helping residents achieve stability and agency in their lives. Second-stage housing provides short-term support with on-site services, including crisis and emotional support, safety planning, and life-skills training.
Mayor Sean Bujtas expressed gratitude to all partners involved in the project, acknowledging the vital role Ella’s Place will play in offering safety and support for women and children in need.
This development is part of a broader $19-billion housing investment by the B.C. government, which has delivered or is underway with nearly 80,000 homes since 2017.
