Friday The Prince Rupert Gas Transmission project has filed an amendment with the BC Environmental Assessment Office for a 172 km pipeline reroute, beginning 37 km west of Chetwynd, British Columbia. This new route responds to concerns from Treaty 8 Nations, avoiding sensitive caribou habitats and largely following existing corridors, including natural gas pipelines and highways, to minimize environmental impact.
About 45% of the new route overlaps with previously disturbed areas, reducing the project’s footprint by 60 km. PRGT has engaged extensively with local Indigenous nations to ensure their feedback shapes the project.
Additionally, a second amendment is underway for the pipeline’s western end, adding a delivery point at Wil Milit on Pearse Island for the Ksi Lisims LNG project, which could shorten the marine segment by 100 km. If approved, the total PRGT pipeline length will be 750 km, reducing the originally approved footprint by 160 km.
