Residents of the Bulkley Valley are invited to help shape the future of local forests by participating in the development of the Bulkley-Morice Forest Landscape Plan (FLP).
The FLP is being co-developed with First Nations and includes input from communities, subject-matter experts, and forest licensees. It aims to guide forest stewardship by addressing old-growth management, biodiversity, climate change, watershed health, wildfire risk, and more. Participating First Nations include the Cheslatta Carrier Nation, Gitxsan Nation, Lake Babine Nation, Witset First Nation, the Office of Wet’suwet’en, and Wet’suwet’en First Nation.
Three open-house sessions will provide opportunities for public engagement:
- Jan. 29, 2025: Granisle Senior Centre, 1–3 p.m.
- Feb. 26, 2025: Houston Community Hall, 1–3 p.m.
- March 6, 2025: Smithers Old Church, 1–3 p.m. This collaborative plan seeks to balance environmental conservation, timber production, and community needs while addressing forest health and climate impacts.
