The Public Health Agency of Canada has announced that federal funding for COVID-19 vaccines will end this year. As a result, provinces and territories will take on the responsibility of purchasing vaccines and deciding on vaccination schedules for their residents.
New guidance suggests that seniors aged 80 and older, long-term care home residents, and individuals who are moderately to severely immunocompromised should receive two COVID-19 vaccine doses annually.
Additionally, the agency recommends one yearly dose for adults aged 65 and older, healthcare workers, and others at higher risk of severe illness, provided they’ve already been vaccinated.
