Canada Post customers will now pay more to send mail, with stamp prices rising following mounting financial losses for the Crown corporation.
As of Yesturday, a 25% price hike proposed last year is now in effect. Domestic stamps purchased individually have increased by 25 cents, from $1.15 to $1.44.
Stamps bought in booklets, coils, or panes—which account for most sales—have risen from 99 cents to $1.24 each.
The price increase also impacts other services, including U.S. and international letter-post and domestic registered mail items, with an average rise of 25%.
The new rates were first proposed in September, before a Canada Post strike occurred, and received final regulatory approval in November.
The price adjustments come as Canada Post continues to face significant financial challenges.
The company reported a $315 million pre-tax loss in the third quarter of 2024, citing declining parcel revenue and lower mail volumes as key factors.
