MLA Tamara Davidson has provided an update on the province’s preparations in response to the potential threat of U.S. tariffs. While the situation remains uncertain, Davidson emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting local jobs and industries. Premier David Eby has formed a new cabinet committee to handle the issue, focusing on countermeasures, outreach to American decision-makers, and economic diversification to reduce dependency on U.S. markets.
In addition to addressing the tariff situation, Davidson shared highlights from her recent community visits. In Hartley Bay, she met with the Gitga’at Guardians, learning about their vital work and partnership with the Haida Guardians. She also toured the new Coast Guard station, where she experienced life on the water with their crew, and attended a public meet-and-greet with community members.
Davidson’s visit to Prince Rupert included meetings with local industry leaders, tours of port facilities, and visits to key projects like the future site of Metlakatla’s logistics hub and electric trucks introduced by Gat Leedm. She also met with the Mayor of Port Edward, local school officials, and attended community events. Davidson will return to Prince Rupert next weekend for the All-Native Basketball Tournament.
