A new self-collection kit for sexual assault evidence will soon be available at ‘Ksan Society locations in Terrace, B.C., free of charge. Developed by Victoria-based Chloe Hunt and her organization Fourwords Solutions, the paceKit aims to provide an alternative for those who may not report their assault, particularly in rural and remote areas.
Designed with input from law enforcement and forensics experts, the kit allows evidence collection within 48 hours of an assault. Trained staff at ‘Ksan Society will assist users to ensure proper handling. Once completed, the kit is handed to the RCMP with either a full or anonymous report.
With sexual assault reporting rates among the lowest for any crime in Canada, the initiative hopes to expand access to evidence collection and encourage more survivors to come forward. Already launched in Trail, B.C., the program has received strong support and is now expanding to northern communities.
