An Emergency Warming Centre (EWC) will be available this weekend in Terrace to support residents during extreme cold weather. The centre will be open from 7 AM to 7 PM on Saturday and Sunday, February 8 and 9, at ‘Ksan Society’s Turning Points Building, located at 4444 Lakelse Avenue.
The centre provides a safe, warm space for individuals who cannot access shelter during extreme weather. Visitors will have access to hot beverages, snacks, washrooms, and showers. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the City of Terrace, ‘Ksan Society, Terrace and District Community Services Society (TDCSS), Kermode Friendship Society, and Gitlaxdax Nisga’a Terrace Society, supported by Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR) funding.
The opening of the EWC follows the expected temperature and wind chill thresholds for extreme cold. The centre is a temporary solution for those unable to find shelter but does not replace existing overnight shelters.
