The 65th annual All Native Basketball Tournament is underway in Prince Rupert, running from February 7 to 15. Among the many volunteers helping the event run smoothly is Terry Guno, who is working security for the second year in a row.
Guno ensures that emergency exits remain clear and assists with crowd control. He was invited to volunteer by J.R. Leisk and, since retiring, has found it to be a rewarding experience. He enjoys the atmosphere, meeting new people, and being close to the game.
One of the biggest challenges he faces is keeping exits unobstructed, as some attendees get frustrated when asked to move. During emergencies, he helps create space for first aid responders, ensuring they can do their job without interference.
Guno appreciates the mix of volunteers, from youth helping with setup to older community members like himself. He encourages anyone interested in volunteering to reach out to the All Native Tournament office. For him, the long hours are worth it. He loves basketball, the energy of the tournament, and the opportunity to watch from the best seat in the house.
