LNG Canada is set to receive a key shipment of liquefied natural gas at its Kitimat terminal in early April, as part of equipment testing ahead of its planned exports in 2025. The delivery will help cool the facility’s LNG storage tank and test equipment under cryogenic conditions. It is not intended for export but is a critical step in the commissioning process.
The vessel will be escorted from the Triple Island pilot station near Prince Rupert to the Kitimat terminal, a journey of about 159 nautical miles. Once docked, the LNG will be transferred to the terminal over the next three to four weeks, marking an important milestone for Canada’s first major LNG export terminal.
LNG Canada remains on track to begin exports by mid-2025, with initial production set at 14 million tonnes per year. A proposed expansion could double that capacity, with a final investment decision still pending. The project is one of the largest private investments in Canadian history, with a 40-year export license.
