Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach is hosting a community dialogue in Terrace on February 27 to discuss changes to Canada’s immigration policy. Bachrach has heard concerns from local residents about how these changes could impact the future and aims to bring people together to explore the issue. The event, in partnership with the Skeena Diversity Society, will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Best Western Inn.
The recent immigration policy changes, announced by the federal government in October 2024, focus on adjusting targets for both temporary residents, such as international students and foreign workers, and permanent residents. The changes aim to address long-term economic goals and ease pressures on housing, infrastructure, and social services. Compared to 2023 numbers, the target for permanent residents will drop from 500,000 to 395,000 in 2025 and continue to decrease through 2027.
In addition to the Terrace event, Bachrach will host another dialogue in Prince Rupert on March 4 at the Highliner Hotel, in partnership with Community Futures Pacific Northwest.
