The Kitimat RCMP triumphed 6-3 over the Kitimat Fire Department in the annual Guns & Hoses charity hockey game on February 22. While the RCMP took home the win, the true success of the event was the $20,828 raised for local sports programs and community initiatives.
Brad Bemis, Training Officer for the Kitimat Fire Department, expressed pride in this year’s fundraising total, noting it was one of the highest they’ve ever achieved. The funds will benefit the Kitimat Firefighters Ladder of Hope Charitable Foundation, which supports local nonprofits, including Kitimat Minor Hockey, making youth sports more accessible.
Held at Tamitik Arena, the event received strong support from local businesses and community members, who contributed through ticket sales, raffles, and 50-50 draws. Bemis highlighted the community’s involvement as key to the event’s success, calling it a great occasion because of the people who make it happen.
