The Blueberry River First Nations (BRFN) has expressed support for the NEBC Connector Project following a new agreement with NorthRiver Midstream. The agreement promises significant benefits for both the First Nation and the broader provincial economy.
This project, which was fast-tracked by the provincial government to counter U.S. tariff threats, involves two 216-kilometre pipelines designed to transport LNG from Wonowon to Gordondale, Alberta. Spanning nearly 200 hectares of Crown Land, the construction will require land disturbance.
The Blueberry River First Nations engaged with NorthRiver Midstream in fall 2024 after regulatory delays and land disturbance concerns had initially put the project at risk. The company received approval from the province in January 2025 and has committed to working in partnership with First Nations and regulatory authorities moving forward.
BRFN’s Council emphasized their support for industrial development that respects Treaty Rights and promotes economic growth. They will continue to collaborate on joint permitting and planning in alignment with the 2023 Implementation Agreement.
