In response to U.S. tariffs, the BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) has halted the importation and retail sale of U.S.-made liquor products in BC Liquor Stores (BCL) as of March 10, 2025. While these products will no longer be available for purchase in BCL locations, they will continue to be available through wholesale distribution to private liquor stores, restaurants, bars, and pubs until existing inventory is sold out.
CFNR News reached out to several private liquor stores for comment. Terrace Inn Liquor Store, and Skeena Liquor Store declined to comment. Attempts to contact Days Inn Liquor Store and Northern Motor Inn Liquor Store were unsuccessful.
This move aligns with both provincial and federal efforts to address the tariffs while supporting local BC liquor manufacturers. The LDB is focusing on promoting BC-made products, with BC Liquor Stores now adding red maple leaf labels to Canadian-made liquor and featuring dedicated sections for BC VQA wines, craft spirits, and beer. The LDB continues to work with industry stakeholders to ensure the growth of local businesses, while balancing the need to fund essential public services such as healthcare, education, and social services across the province.
