The Bulkley Valley Community Foundation (BVCF) has distributed $93,700 in grants for 2025, a nearly 30% increase from last year’s $64,100. Funding supports local initiatives across Smithers, Telkwa, Houston, and the Hazeltons.
Among the recipients, the Children’s Charity of BC received $9,000 to provide private autism and psycho-educational assessments for three children from low-income families. While public assessments are available, wait times of up to two years can significantly impact a child’s development.
Other funded projects include hot lunch programs, adaptive recreation, Indigenous art initiatives, and community services such as local food programs and hospice care. The grants aim to enhance quality of life and support community development throughout the Bulkley Valley.
