The North District RCMP is warning about a rise in high-value fraud schemes targeting Indigenous communities and businesses.
Over the past 15 months, scammers have stolen more than $3 million, and evidence shows these schemes are spreading nationwide.
Corporal Madonna Saunderson says the scams are often sophisticated, using fake emails, misrepresentation, and technology to exploit trust and gain access to financial records.
In many cases, fraudsters pose as vendors or consultants and request changes to banking info—redirecting payments into their own accounts.
RCMP say they’re deeply concerned about the financial and social impact on affected communities and are urging everyone to stay alert, verify credentials, and report anything suspicious.
If you have information, contact your local RCMP detachment.
