Last week, two major commitments from the Cooperation and Responsible Government Accord (CARGA) between the BC Greens and the provincial government were realized, marking significant wins for British Columbians.
The first is $50 million in new rebates to make heat pumps more affordable for low- and moderate-income households, including renters and people in multi-unit buildings. As part of the CleanBC Energy Savings Program, this funding will help families install energy-efficient, climate-friendly heat pumps, offering rebates of up to $5,500. This initiative is expected to save money and reduce emissions across the province.
The second win is the launch of a new Special Committee on Democratic and Electoral Reform, set to begin its work this summer. The committee’s mandate will include exploring ways to enhance citizen engagement and improve the province’s electoral system.
These achievements are a direct result of the CARGA agreement, which ensures that the BC Greens hold the government accountable for addressing key issues that matter to British Columbians. The progress on clean energy and democratic renewal highlights the ongoing commitment to making the province more affordable, equitable, and inclusive.
