The District of Port Edward has officially added a new fire truck to its fleet, significantly enhancing emergency response for the community and surrounding areas.
The $500,000 vehicle was funded through a partnership between the Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) and the District of Port Edward, with PRPA contributing $155,000 through its Community Investment Fund.
Replacing a truck that served for over 30 years, the new apparatus is equipped with a modern water pump, updated hoses, a ladder, and improved safety features, including enclosed seating to better protect firefighters en route to calls.
The Port Edward Volunteer Fire Department now has the tools to respond more effectively across its service area, which stretches from the Cassiar Cannery to the Tyee Overpass along Highway 16.
PRPA says the investment reflects its ongoing commitment to supporting emergency preparedness on the North Coast. Fire Chief Jason Giesbrecht called the support “valuable,” noting the upgraded equipment ensures safer and more efficient operations for the dedicated volunteer team.
