The community of Skidegate is mourning the tragic loss of 32-year-old Luke Pearson, who died Tuesday in what police are calling a targeted homicide. Pearson was fatally struck by a vehicle on Front Street in the early afternoon. He was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries. A suspect has been arrested, and the investigation is being led by the North District Major Crime Unit with support from local RCMP.
Born and raised in Skidegate, Pearson was a proud member of the Juus Eagle Clan. He was a Journeyman Marine Mechanic, well-known for his meticulous work on boats and his willingness to help others. He was a deeply loyal friend, a caring partner, a devoted son, and a steady presence in the lives of those who knew him.
Pearson loved exploring the outdoors with his dog, fishing, and spending time with his family and lifelong friends. He was looking forward to playing in the upcoming softball season and had a bright future ahead of him.
His death has left a deep void in the community. Police are asking anyone with information or video footage to contact the Daajing Giids RCMP as they continue their investigation.
