A 32-year-old man from Skidegate has been charged with second degree murder following the death of a pedestrian earlier this week. On Tuesday, April 22, at approximately 1:17 p.m., Daajing Giids RCMP responded to a report that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in the 200 block of Front Street in Skidegate. The man, later identified as Luke Pearson, died from his injuries.
The RCMP quickly determined the incident was targeted and not a random act. The North District Major Crime Unit assumed control of the investigation and worked alongside local officers to gather evidence and speak with witnesses. On April 25, Tyson Young was arrested and charged. A bail hearing was scheduled for later that day.
Police are continuing their investigation and encourage anyone with information, including dashcam or security footage, to come forward. Increased police presence will continue in the community in the coming days.
Luke Pearson is being remembered as a hardworking marine mechanic, a beloved family member, and a proud member of the Juus Eagle Clan. His family describes him as kind, steady, and deeply connected to his home and community. His loss is being deeply felt throughout Skidegate and Haida Gwaii.
