The Port of Prince Rupert had a record year in 2017.
Over 24 million tonnes of cargo went throught the facility last year with overall tonnage up by 28 per cent over 2016.
The Prince Rupert Port Authority says last year’s growth was anchored by a 26 per cent surge in its intermodal container business and an increase in dry bulk cargo volumes.
Port Authority Chair Bud Smith says the terminal expansion, introduction of new logistics services, and the increasingly diversified nature of the gateway is paying dividends.
Smith says the port remains well-positioned to accommodate growth of Canadian trade in the Asia-Pacific region, and continues to advance expansion that will see it become Canada’s second largest port by volume in the next ten years.
