RCMP say a fatal crash north of Lac la Hache Wednesday morning was sparked by a pass that went horribly wrong.
Investigators say a south-bound logging truck in the fast lane of Highway 97 was overtaking another semi in the slow lane when the trailers made contact. Police say the fully loaded logging trailer then jack-knifed across the highway, striking a north-bound vehicle.
The driver of the north-bound vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene while a youth in the vehicle was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Neither of the transport truck drivers were injured.
The RCMP’s Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Traffic Services, Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service, Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement, and the BC Coroners Service are investigating.
Anyone with information about the crash should contact the Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Traffic Services office at 250-392-8729.
