An RCMP officer was in the right place at the right time when a woman unexpectedly gave birth in a remote northern B.C. community Sunday.
A constable from the Fort Saint James detachment was called out to assist paramedics at a home in Tachie when the newborn baby did not appear to be breathing.
The officer was first on scene and was able to perform CPR with one of the family members. According to police, the baby began to breath and move its arms.
Both mom and baby were taken to hospital where both are reported to be doing fine.
RCMP say the officer’s quick reaction helped save the newborn baby’s life.
Fort Saint James detachment commander Corporal Jeff Raffle says he couldn’t be more proud of the officer’s actions.
