Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was in Prince Rupert today to announce a new collaboration between the Federal Government and First Nations that aims to utilize the unique input of Indigenous peoples to help better protect and manage BC’s coastline.
When asked about how the agreement will affect BC’s question to the Supreme Court regarding their ability to protect the coast, Trudeau said the Federal Government is the only level of government that has the interests of all Canadians in mind.
Trudeau went on to say that his government had worked out an agreement with the former BC government, which the current one is questioning.
The new framework will bring together 14 First Nations for consultation.
