Ridership on the Highway 16 Intercommunity Bus Service has spiked since Greyhound’s departure from the north.
The BC Transit service saw about 5 thousand riders in its first year of service, but in the 7 months since, ridership has leaped 12 thousand customers.
A recent check-in shows around 22 hundred travellers per month are using the service which provides long-haul routes between Terrace and Hazelton, Hazelton and Smithers, Smithers and Burns Lake, Smithers and Moricetown, and Burns Lake and Prince George.
BC Transit has added 15 new all weather terminals and 6 new travel shelters to the routes.
To date, 11 of 12 grant recipients have the community vehicles up and running.
