Land title transactions are set to become more secure, efficient, and affordable by 2020 thanks to a new bill introduced today.
Bill 37, or the Land Statuses Amendment Act, seeks to modernize the land title and survey systems by switching to a fully electronic system.
Under the new system, title changes, treaty settlement changes, and property tax transfers will all be done electronically.
This will eliminate the need for paper filings and for lawyers to be present as notaries on smaller disputes or transactions.
The changes are planned to be gradually phased in by 2020.
