In a release from earlier in the week, Premier John Horgan expressed optimism that the new USMCA trade agreement would better position Canada to challenge US tariffs.
Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Nathan Cullen does not, however, share the Premier’s enthusiasm.
According to Cullen, the system remains unchanged from the previous NAFTA system, and spells more status quo for the future when it comes to softwood lumber and steel tariffs.
In his statement today, Cullen called the new agreement “another death by a thousand cuts”, saying that it was not what was promised by the Liberal government.
