The Nisga’a Lisims Government wants to know why local students aren’t making the grade.
The NLG has announced a comprehensive review of the Nisga’a School District in a public notice issued this week.
The government says the goal of the research project is to find out what factors contribute to “poor student outcomes” in the district and identity opportunities to improve success rates.
The Ministry of Education’s 2017 report on the Nisga’a School District shows students behind their provincial peers in reading, writing, numeracy, and school completion rates.
The Nisga’a Lisims Government says a three-person consulting team will combine meetings with school district trustees, staff, parents, students, and elders with academic research before writing its final report.
The report, which will include findings and recommendations for improvement, is expected by the end of March, 2019.
