With the dust settled and the votes tallied, it’s official, BC has once again voted to keep the First Past the Post Voting system.
Just over 1.4 million British Columbians casted their votes in the referendum, representing 42.6 percent of registered voters.
Of that, 61.3 percent voted to keep the current First Past the Post voting system, striking down Proportional Representation in BC for the third time.
In the Skeena, 67 percent of voters opted to keep FPTP, each of Prince George’s ridings saw 71 percent cast in favour of the current system, and the Cariboo-Cholcotin and Cariboo North voted 76 and 75 percent in favour of FPTP, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Peace River ridings saw the highest percentages of votes in favour of the current FPTP system at 86 percent in the North and 84 percent in the South.
In contrast, the North Coast riding saw the least favourable outcome for FPTP in the north, where it still took 52 percent of the vote.
