District Officials in Port Edward have shut off water to the RV Sanidump at the District’s entrance.
Normally, the District shuts the water supply off in late November, but they had left the water running later this year in an effort to help their neighbours in Prince Rupert access clean water.
Prince Rupert has been under a boil water advisory since December 14th, and Port Edward had made the Sanidump available as a filling station to assist.
Unfortunately, colder weather led to the freezing of the pipes at the station, forcing the District to thaw the pipes before shutting them off.
This was done as a preventative measure to prevent running water to homes within Port Edward from being affected.
Mayor Knut Bjorndal says they will reopen the taps to Prince Rupert residents should the conditions improve.
