Northern Health is warning residents of an increase in influenza activity in Northern BC.
According to Health Officer Doctor Rachel Kling, viruses tend to spread much more easily during the mid-winter months, especially among elderly and those with pre-existing conditions.
But Northern Health says there are a few ways you can combat the increased seasonal risk: get plenty of rest and drink lots of fluids if you feel symptoms setting in, stay home if you’re even a little sick, practice proper hand hygiene, and observing coughing and sneezing etiquette.
However, the best way to reduce your risks of contracting or spreading the disease is to get your flu shot, and it is not to late to do so.
There are plenty of clinics and pharmacies still offering the shots, sometimes even for free.
