Hazelton is eyeing a July opening for their new in-door ice rink and rec centre.
With the building itself expected to be complete by the end of February, the 20 million dollar project is finally nearing completion.
Construction on the two-story Upper Skeena Rec Centre, which features concessions, a gymnasium, community room, full-size ice rink, and stands for 500 spectators, began seven years ago.
Since then, the District has received several donations for the project, including those from both the Gitxsan elected and hereditary chiefs, the provincial and federal governments, and numerous individual backers.
Plans are already underway to develop and expand on a number of Indigenous recreation programs when the facility is up and running.
