A proposal has been submitted to Ottawa which could see the Haisla Nation reserve around Kitimaat Village nearly double in size.
Haisla had previously purchased to two lots, south of the Village, which the proposal covers from Alcan.
There are also four smaller lots, owned in partnership between the Nation and Pacific Traverse Energy included in the proposal.
Indigenous Services Canada is currently reviewing the Addition to Reserve, which would add 120.1 hectares between the two main lots to Reserve Number two.
This would more than double the size of the reserve, though MLA Ellis Ross is cautioning against too much optimism, saying Addition to Reserves are very rare and could take decades to go through.
