Terrace, Dawson Creek, and Prince George will all play host to the federal government’s new Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot.
In an effort to combat the national labour shortage, the program hopes to move immigrants from larger cities to settle in rural communities in need of employees.
As it stands, more than 75 percent of immigrants choose to live in large metropolisis like Toronto and Vancouver.
This program will look at a community’s needs and decide where to send newcomers to offer the most economic advantage.
Through these means, the project hopes to hit two birds with one stone by addressing the issue of small towns fighting over the same skilled workers.
