Telkwa is withdrawing it’s representative from the Smithers Public Library Board.
Councillor Matthew Monkman, who had been the village council’s rep, has announced he is resigning from the position.
Monkman came to this decision after determining that, as a non-voting member, council was not getting adequate value from his involvement.
Board Chair Wally Bergen called the decision disappointing, but City Council, along with the Mayor, ultimately agreed with Monkman’s decision.
Bergen says that, under the Libraries Act, it isn’t possible to make the Telkwa rep a voting member, as the act limits which jurisdictions can have voting members.
