The Smithers Library-Gallery Project has reached a major fundraising milestone, but organizers say there’s more work ahead.
Fundraising committee co-chair Wally Bergen says project has received more than half of the one million dollar community contribution target so far.
The committee has received major funding boosts from RBC, Kassandra Trust, the Bulkley Valley Community Foundation, and a $300,000 donation announced by Dr. Rodolfo and Marianne Bianco and the Koerner Foundation.
The multi-million dollar project would see a combined public library and art gallery at Veterans’ Peace Park at the end of Main Street.
But the new building hinges on the success of a federal-provincial grant application that will provide 80% of the funds needed.
The fundraising committee says the wider community will have a chance to make donations to the community contribution share of the project in the coming months.
