Three proposals for projects looking to commemorate missing and murdered Indigenous women came before Terrace City Council yesterday.
All three of the projects, which will eventually come together as one, were seeking letters of support from the city as they apply for 3 separate grant funding streams.
A 25 thousand dollar grant is being sought by the Tears to Hope Society to host the first of what they hope to become an annual relay run.
Under the proposal, two groups would participate, one starting in Smithers and one in Prince Rupert, meeting in Terrace at the end.
Runners would pass messages of support between each other as they complete the trip.
In addition, Tears to Hope will be applying for a second, 5 thousand dollar IMAGINE grant to bring in a psychiatrist for the event.
Finally, the third project, presented by Kermode Friendship Society, would see 4 communities come together to apply for 200 thousand in grant funding.
That funding would come from the MMIWG Commemoration Fund and would go towards developing an amber alert-style warning system for when Indigenous women go missing.
It would also support professional development and training, as well as the second year of the Tears to Hope Relay Run.
All three projects were issued letters of support by Council.
