A forestry worker in Terrace is happy and shocked to be alive following a near-miss with a grizzly bear this weekend.
Two workers were out near Williams Creek on Thursday when they encountered the angry bear.
When the grizzly, who one of the individuals believes had just woken up, noticed them, it began to charge.
Initially the worker ran from the bear, but when it became clear he was losing ground, he stopped and protected his neck and head.
Surprisingly, the bear ceased its pursuit and left the pair alone.
Residents are reminded that bears and other wildlife pose a constant risk and that they should always be prepared if they are heading in to the rough.
