A proposed celebration to honour residential school survivors in Terrace is on a time crunch after receiving some funding from Council yesterday.
Brittany McDougall, a youth leader with the Canadian Roots Exchange’s Rural Youth Reconcilliation Initiative brought the funding request before Council.
That initial request was for just over 19 hundred dollars to fund the procurement and planting of a cedar tree in George Little Park, as well as a celebration on April 20th.
According to McDougall, the cedar tree represents growth, strength, and a connection to the land.
With the city’s unbudgeted allowance running low, Councillors struggled over their support for the cause and the city’s coffers.
Ultimately, Council agreed to contribute $472.50, the cost of the park rental, totaling 672.50 with the damage deposit.
