MLA Jennifer Rice says 70 thousand dollars in crime prevention grants announced for the Northcoast last week will help to build stronger communities.
Announced on Friday, the funding will come from the Crime Prevention and Remediation grant program.
Three projects in the region will receive funding which will redirect the proceeds of crime, injecting them back in to community safety.
With 30 thousand dollars in grant funding, the Skidegate Band Council will be able to recruit an outreach worker.
13.5 thousand in funding will support the Rainbows Over Rupert program, a combined effort by North Coast Victim Services and the RCMP to reduce violence against women.
And the Nuxalk Nation will get 30 thousand dollars to support their 2019 Nation to Nation gathering.
In total, more than 6 million dollars will go to over 170 community organizations and projects across BC.
