An Indigenous-led organization that wants to buy a 51 percent stake in the Trans Mountain pipeline is in Victoria Wednesday.
Project Reconciliation’s Shane Gottfriedson spoke to reporters at the B.C. Legislature this morning alongside Skeena Liberal MLA Ellis Ross.
Gottfriedson says the group wants to sign as many of the 300 First Nations in from B.C., Alberta, and Saskatchewan as possible to buy a majority stake in the pipeline. He says ownership in the project would provide a boost to both economic and social conditions of First Nations.
Project Reconciliation says it’s had early discussions with the federal government about the proposal’s potential.
Gottfriedson says the group is raising money through equity markets in order to fund it’s potential stake in the pipeline.
