A goldfish invasion near Terrace is forcing a recreational fishing closure at a local lake.
As of this Saturday, all recreational angling on Lost Lake will be prohibited to prevent the spread of goldfish.
Goldfish are a non-native species to the Lake which have been proven to have disasterous effects on BC’s marine ecosystems in the past.
Biologists are unsure as to how many or how long the fish have been in the lake, but the various sizes spotted leads them to believe they’re already reproducing.
Officials have put the closure in place to prevent the fish from spreading in to the Skeena Watershed.
Lost Lake is just 1.1 kms from the Kitsumkalum River.
