It looks like a tough season ahead for the recreational salmon fishery in the Northwest.
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans has announced widespread salmon closures across the North Coast Region.
The DFO has reduced the maximum daily quota for Skeena Chinook to two in the Skeena River mainstem and sections of the Bulkley, Kitsumkalum, and Morice Rivers. Only one of the fish can be over 65 cm.
As of now, the entire Skeena River Watershed upstream of the Sustut River confluence is closed to Chinook fishing.
All tributaries and lakes of the Skeena will be closed to Chinook fishing except for sections of the Bulkley, Kitsumkalum, and
Morice Rivers.
Officials says the entire Skeena River watershed will be closed to Chinook fishing on August 15, 2019 to protect spawning chinook stocks.
The DFO has also reduced daily limits for Coho and the entire Skeena River watershed remains closed for the recreational Chum fishery.
Full details about the recreational closures can be found here.
