Roughly 3 thousand forestry workers from BC are now on strike following failed contract negotiations.
According to Western Forest Products Inc, roughly 15 hundred hourly employees and 15 hundred contractors walked off the job yesterday.
That comes following failed negotiations between Western and the United Steelworkers, whose members voted 98.8 percent in favour of the action.
Union members say the company has failed to address their proposals and continues to keep massive concessions in the discussions.
In a statement, Western Forest CEO Don Demens says it’s clear the union is intent on inflicting damage to the coastal forest industry.
