B.C.’s transportation minister was on Haida Gwaii this week talking about the future of ferries.
Claire Trevena met with stakeholders as part of a “visioning tour” to find out how they want to see the ferry system operating for coastal residents.
The minister says sailing frequency was a big topic as well as reservations. Trevena says people want more certainty about getting on the ferry, especially during peak times.
Trevena says one of the other concerns that came out loud and clear from Haida Gwaii meetings was the need for BC Ferries to beintegrated with other transportation services for things like off island medical appointments.
Trevena says the tour will continue over the next six weeks, followed by online engagement and more community meetings, culminating in a report sometime in the spring.
