The B.C. government will be making a couple of forestry-related announcements this week.
Parliamentary Secretary Ravi Kahlon will be in Quesnel Wednesday to make changes to the allowable annual cut in the region.
He’ll be joined by Quesnel mayor Bob Simpson and area First Nations leadership in what the government says will be a move to increase local and Indigenous opportunities in the forest sector.
Kahlon will then travel to Prince George Wednesday afternoon to make a province-wide funding announcement about wood fibre utilization projects.
The B.C. forest sector has been hit may layoffs, downtime, and permanent mill closures which industry blames on high log costs, low lumber prices, and fibre shortages.
