Redesign Rupert’s 2019 Labour Market Study has been released. The study outlines the current composition of Prince Rupert’s labour market, it also identifies critical shortages and summarizes how projected major projects in Northern B.C. continue to affect the local labour force.
There are some key findings that have come from the report. Between 2018 and 2028 new job openings in Prince Rupert are estimated to increase 3.3 per cent per year. Population stagnation despite rapid economic growth has had an impact on the labour shortage.
Overall it is estimated that 1,910 new full time jobs will be created in Prince Rupert up to 2030, with projections of 1,016 port jobs, 508 ancillary support jobs, and 386 tertiary jobs.
